MAAA-MA Musicology

MAAA-MA Musicology Program (54 credit hours)

The MAAA-MA Musicology dual degree allows students to pair the Master of Arts in Arts Administration from O'Neill with the Master of Arts in Musicology from the Jacobs School of Music. The curriculum requires 54 credits, to be completed in 3 years.

Students take 33 graduate credit hours in arts administration, and at least 21 credit hours in musicology. See below for the full outline of the MAAA requirements for the MAAA-MA Musicology degree.

MAAA Requirement III: Experiential (0-6 credit hours)

You will complete three 50-hour arts management practicum projects, as well as a 280-hour internship. You should register for 0 credits of the practicum course each semester unless counseled otherwise by your academic advisor. Internships must be approved by the O'Neill Career Hub before you can register for the internship course. See the Policies & Procedures page for more details.

MAAA Requirement IV: Electives (0-6 credit hours)

Students take up to 6 credits of additional MAAA management and policy coursework to reach a total of 33 arts administration degree credits. Courses can be chosen from the remaining Management and Policy Courses above, as well as from the options below:

Possible topics courses include: Arts Education Policy, Arts Writing and Advanced Marketing, History of Museums, etc.

Alternately, students can opt to enroll in up to 6 credits of AADM experiential learning in place of some of these elective credits.

Musicology Requirements (21 credit hours)

Students will complete at least 21 credits toward the MA in Musicology following the Jacobs School of Music degree requirements.

Note that students pursuing the dual degree will not need to complete in the Jacobs "Other Required Credits" requirement as those courses are fulfilled with the MAAA portion of the dual degree.
