Current O'Neill undergraduate students who are interested in providing guidance to new O'Neill students should consider becoming an O'Neill Mentor.
O'Neill Mentors will receive mandatory training at the beginning of the fall 2019 semester, which will empower them to provide structured guidance to two newly declared O'Neill major students over the course of the semester.
In addition to training before the start of fall classes, mentors will be required to work approximately 5-6 hours every month during the academic school year and attend all planned activities by the O'Neill Peer Mentor Program Assistant. Non-training and event hours are flexible and will be dependent upon agreed Mentors/Mentees meeting schedule.
Mentors will offer relevant experience and learning skills, demonstrate a desire to help and develop new students, respect confidentiality, exhibit a willingness to establish and maintain a rapport with a diverse population, identify problems and relate this information to their supervisor.
Applicants must be undergraduate O'Neill students with a desire to help fellow Hoosiers reach their full academic and personal growth within O'Neill
Mentors must be able to effectively communicate with all students, faculty, staff and the O'Neill Mentor Program Coordinator
Candidates should be comfortable with public speaking, effective in time management, organized, self-disciplined, and able to relate to people from diverse backgrounds

In order to create a strong foundation for academic and professional development success, the O'Neill Mentorship Program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to connect with other O'Neill students who have already navigated the many programs and services offered by the school. Through a structured, semester-long, mentorship program, O'Neill will work to engage fellow O'Neill students in every student support services unit, while also creating a greater sense of community for undergraduate O'Neill students. This program will support Indiana University’s mission of Fulfilling the Promise by connecting students to resources that unlock their full potential as students, engaged global citizens, and leaders for the greater good.
